Kibera- The largest slum in the world. Niarobi, Kenya
Hello Everyone,
In just a few weeks from today, I hope to be flying to Africa as part of a medical mission providing healthcare and medical support to thousands of children and adults in the slums of Kenya and Uganda. I am sharing this blog with you today because I need your financial support to make this trip possible. On this Mission, I will be working as an EMT with a group of doctors, dentists and nurses. We will be setting up medical clinics in the most impoverished communities throughout Kenya and Uganda with the goal of providing everything from urgent surgical care to providing basic level medical/dental care and treatment. In such poor countries, the standard for “basic” care is beyond the pale, so even the simplest of treatments yields huge improvements to the quality of life of these people.
The group I will be traveling with is called Kelly Green Global. For more information on KGEA please visit www.kellygreenglobal.org. The main goal of this organization is to spread the word of God by providing care and support to people in need, and letting them see God’s work in our actions.
In April, 2010, I had the opportunity to be part of another medical mission in Haiti three months after the devastating 2010 earthquake. During the week and a half we were in country, we set up seven different clinics, in various rural towns, and treated over 3000 patients. This was a life changing and incredibly rewarding experience that has forever changed my life. Through this trip I have realized my calling and have decided to pursue a career in medicine and continue serving those less fortunate. I am now in the process of applying to graduate schools for either a Masters Degree as a Physicians Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner starting in the spring of 2012.
This upcoming trip is not only a big time commitment, but it is a large financial commitment. The cost of this trip is $5,500 dollars, which includes the cost of airfare, lodging and in-country travel. This doesn’t cover the cost of meals, gifts for interpreters, tips, incidentals, etc. Between this trip and my past two trips to Haiti, I have spent large portions of my personal savings in the hopes of helping others with using the skills and the education I have received. This time around I am asking friends and family to help support my work and this cause by making a donation to offset my costs for this trip. Your donation would go 100% towards allowing me to directly support the medical efforts of our mission and helping the people of Kenya and Uganda.
Donations may be made by check to 28 Hillside Ave, Newport, RI 02840, payable to Lauren M. Gineo and in the memo portion:“Medical Mission.” You can also make a donation via pay pal at the top right of this page. I look forward to sharing my adventures with you here on my blog. Thank you for your time and consideration.
