First Medical Clinic
Hello Everyone!
Today was our first official day of clinic. We arrived this morning to a line of hundreds in the trash ridden streets. The local people are very grateful for our presence and care. The condition of health in this town was surprisingly high and not what I was expecting. The people treated were all relatively healthy as far as a third world country goes. This could be due to the demographic that attended the clinic as most people seemed to be members of the church and of a higher economic class. We are expecting that as the week goes on we will see a higher degree of poverty and more serious tropically specific diseases. Most of the conditions seen today were the common cold, worms, allergies, fungal infections, PID, muscle aches, respiratory problems, etc.
In the medical clinic we saw and treated 250 patients. In the dental clinic they were able to preform extractions and other various procedures on 80 individuals. The eye clinic examined and handed out over 500 pairs of glasses. Once the kinks are worked out we will be capable of treating even more people!
Off to study for a bit and then call it a night. Long day for sure! I'll try and update either tomorrow morning or after clinic late in the day.
Cheers and thanks again for supporting the cause!

Hey Lauren,
ReplyDeleteIn yoga we call what you're doing so beautifully "seva" - selfless service for the greater good. SO even though you may not "do" yoga, you're a true karma yogi in my eyes.
OM Shanti
Murf
So proud of you Lauren, keep up the great work!
